Challenging the Plastic Problem

We live in a world drowning in plastic. From the moment we wake up to the moment we sleep, we are surrounded by it. Our collective obsession with convenience and novelty has fueled an unhealthy reliance on plastic—because it’s cheap, easy to produce, and meets our desire for something new and shiny.

But at what cost?

The reality is that plastic’s life cycle is incredibly short. A toy that comes with a fast-food meal, single-use food packaging, or a fashion accessory that barely lasts a season—these things serve their fleeting purpose and are quickly discarded. At best, they get a second life in a charity shop or passed on to someone else. But eventually, they end up where so much of our waste does—landfills, incinerators, or worse, in the oceans and natural ecosystems, where they persist for hundreds of years.

The Frustration That Sparked Change

When researching business models and online stores, we were struck by the overwhelming amount of plastic-based products flooding the market. Supplier after supplier offered mountains of plastic stock. Meanwhile, finding genuinely eco-friendly alternatives felt like a scavenger hunt.

It’s not that sustainable products don’t exist—they do. Everything from clothing to homeware, personal care to kitchen essentials, has an eco-friendly alternative. But for consumers, shopping sustainably is unnecessarily complicated. You need to be seriously organized, piecing together purchases from multiple sources—eco-friendly toilet paper from one site, reusable kitchen items from another, sustainable fashion from yet another.

Why wasn’t there a single destination that made sustainable shopping simple?

The Birth of Provoke Products

That question became our defining moment.
